Maximizing OL Strength with the 'Anchor and Drive' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Mandan BravesยทWednesday, July 8, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the summer heat intensifies, AA programs like Mandan Braves are fine-tuning their linemen for the upcoming season. One effective drill to boost OL strength and power is the 'Anchor and Drive' exercise. This workout targets the core, legs, and upper body, translating to improved blocking and tackling performance on the field. To run the drill, set up a resistance band or a heavy bag at a 45-degree angle. Have OL players perform 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on driving through the ground and anchoring into the bag. Coaching cues include 'Drive through your heels,' 'Keep your chest up,' and 'Anchor into the bag.' This drill enhances OL strength, stability, and power, setting them up for success in the trenches this season.
