This week's training tip focuses on the 'Shadow Shift' drill, a high-intensity exercise designed to improve reaction time, footwork, and coverage skills. Set up four cones in a square formation, with one cone in the center. Players start at the top cone, then quickly shift their feet to the center cone, mirroring the movement of a receiver. After 3 sets of 10 reps, add a defender to the drill, requiring the CB to react and close the gap. Coaching cue: 'Shadow the receiver, don't chase them.' This drill translates to game performance by forcing CBs to think one step ahead and stay fluid in coverage. Practice the Shadow Shift drill 2-3 times a week to see improvement in your CB play.
