Boosting Kickoff Coverage: A Drill for AAA K Players
At top programs like West Fargo Packers, kickoff coverage is a crucial aspect of defensive strategy. To improve their ability to track and tackle return specialists, coaches can implement the 'Shuttle and Chase' drill. Players line up 10 yards apart, with one player as the returner and the other as the kicker. The kicker runs towards the returner, who then sprints back to the starting line. The kicker immediately turns and chases the returner, simulating the pursuit of a kickoff return. Repeat for 3 sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'eyes on the ball' and 'stay low, stay fast.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the K player's ability to read and react to the returner's movement, ultimately leading to more effective kickoff coverage.
