Burke Bulldogs WRs Get Ready to Dominate: 'Route Runner' Drill
At the top A programs like Omaha Burke, receivers are constantly working on their route-running skills to stay one step ahead of defenders. One effective drill to incorporate into your practice is the 'Route Runner' drill. Set up 3 cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Have your WRs start at the first cone, then run a 5-yard out route to the second cone, followed by a 5-yard slant to the third cone. After completing the route, they must immediately change direction and sprint back to the starting point. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cue: 'Keep your eyes on the defender, then quickly cut to the target zone.' This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to quickly read coverage and change direction on the fly, allowing them to stay in sync with their quarterback and make big plays.
