FridayNightPulse: Tight End Drill for A-Programs
At top Nebraska high school programs like Omaha Burke Bulldogs, tight ends are crucial to success. To improve their pass-catching skills, we recommend the 'Route Box Drill'. Divide the tight ends into pairs, with one player as the receiver and the other as the quarterback. Set up a 10-yard box with cones, with each corner representing a different route (in, out, and deep). Have the quarterback throw to the receiver in each corner, focusing on accuracy and speed. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second break between sets. Coaching cue: 'Catch with your eyes, not your hands.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the tight end's ability to read the quarterback and adjust to the ball in traffic. It also enhances their footwork and agility in tight spaces.
