QB Readiness: Kearney Bearcats' Pre-Season Focus on Pocket Presence
Quarterbacks at smaller programs like Kearney Bearcats face unique challenges, from limited practice time to increased defensive pressure. To combat these obstacles, the Bearcats' coaching staff has developed a pocket presence drill to sharpen their QBs' skills. The drill involves 3 sets of 5 reps, with each rep consisting of 3 seconds in the pocket, 2 seconds of movement, and 1 second of throwing. Coaches cue QBs to 'feel the heat' and 'stay tall' as they navigate the pocket. This drill translates to game performance by improving QBs' ability to read defenses, extend plays, and deliver accurate passes under pressure. By incorporating this drill into their pre-season regimen, Bearcats QBs will be better equipped to handle the physical and mental demands of the season.
