Bellevue West High School's top multisport female athletes are turning their attention to flag football as a pathway to college scholarships. The Thunderbirds' strong athletic program has produced several talented athletes with a proven track record of success. With the University of Nebraska's inaugural NCAA Division 1 flag football program set to launch in 2028, led by coaches Liz and Katie Sowers, local athletes are taking notice. Ottawa University, Kansas, a national powerhouse in NAIA flag football, offers up to 12 scholarships. Keiser University, Florida, and Midland University, Nebraska, are also active recruiters in the sport.
