Kicking Game Prep: Bellevue West Thunderbirds' Kicker Prep Drill

At top programs like Bellevue West, Thunderbirds' kicker prep is a year-round focus. To build leg strength and accuracy, our kicking coach recommends the '3-Point Kicking Circuit'. Set up three kicking stations, each 3 yards apart, with a target or goalpost at the far end. Kicking players will perform the following sequence: 3 sets of 10 reps of 30-yard kicks, followed by 3 sets of 10 reps of 40-yard kicks, and finishing with 3 sets of 10 reps of 50-yard kicks. Coaching cues: focus on proper foot strike, follow through, and balance. This drill translates to game performance by improving kicker's ability to make long-range kicks with accuracy and power, a critical aspect of Nebraska high school football.
