Building a Stronger Bearcat Line: Kearney OL Drill
For B-program linemen, building strength and power is crucial for success on the gridiron. One effective drill to incorporate into your summer training is the 'Medicine Ball Slam.' This exercise targets the entire upper body, with a focus on the shoulders, back, and core. To set up the drill, divide your OL into pairs. One player holds a medicine ball at chest level, while the other player stands behind, holding their hands up for a target. On the coach's signal, the player with the medicine ball slams it down into the target player's hands, with a focus on explosive power. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving hand placement, timing, and overall upper body strength, allowing Bearcat linemen to dominate in the trenches.
