Burke Bulldogs RB Drill: Building Power and Speed
At top-ranked Omaha Burke Bulldogs, running backs are putting in the work this summer to dominate on the gridiron. One key drill that's helping them achieve their goals is the 'Power Shuttle.' This explosive exercise targets the RB's acceleration, deceleration, and power. To set up the drill, mark a 10-yard box with cones. Place a 5-yard box within the larger box, offset by 3 yards. Start at the 10-yard line, sprint to the 5-yard line, then immediately change direction and sprint back to the 10-yard line. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, resting 60 seconds between sets. Coaches cue: 'Explosive start, aggressive cut, and finish with power.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the RB's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate out of cuts, making them nearly unstoppable in the open field.
