Finishing Drills for Lincoln East Spartans OL: The 'Rip and Rebuild'
For the Lincoln East Spartans' OL, a key area of focus this preseason is finishing blocks and creating separation from defenders. To improve this skill, we're introducing the 'Rip and Rebuild' drill. This drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps. Players start in a 3-point stance, then explosively drive forward, ripping the defender with their hands and feet. Immediately, they must rebuild their position, resetting their stance and preparing for the next rep. Coaching cues include 'rip and re-plant' and 'finish with your feet.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching OL players to maintain control and balance after initial contact, allowing them to create second-level blocks and seal off defenders. By incorporating this drill into their training regimen, the Spartans' OL can improve their overall blocking efficiency and effectiveness.
