Burke Bulldogs CBs: Mastering the 'Shadow' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Omaha Burke BulldogsยทThursday, July 23, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Omaha Burke's top cornerbacks are gearing up for another dominant season, and a key component of their pre-season training is the 'Shadow' drill. This high-intensity exercise focuses on mirroring receivers' moves, honing reaction time, and developing anticipation skills. To run the drill, set up a receiver at 10-yard intervals, with a cornerback starting at the line. On the snap, the receiver runs a route, and the cornerback must immediately shadow their every move, staying one step behind. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues emphasize staying low, keeping eyes on the receiver, and reacting quickly to changes in direction. This drill translates to game performance by allowing cornerbacks to anticipate and react to receivers' moves, making it an essential component of the Burke Bulldogs' pre-season training regimen.
