Bearcat WRs: Master the '5-Yard Slant' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Kearney BearcatsยทSunday, July 26, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Kearney Bearcats' wide receivers are gearing up for a strong season, and one key drill will help them dominate on the field: the 5-Yard Slant drill. This exercise targets quick releases and precise route-running, essential for success in the B program. To run the drill: set up four cones in a square formation, 5 yards apart. Have WRs start at one cone, then sprint to the next, planting their outside foot and making a sharp cut to the next cone. Repeat for 3 sets of 5 reps. Coaching cues: 'Plant and pivot,' 'inside foot to the ground,' and 'eyes on the quarterback.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing WRs to develop the speed, agility, and focus needed to create separation and make big plays. By mastering the 5-Yard Slant, Bearcat WRs will be unstoppable this season.
