Astros QBs: Master the 'Quick Release' Drill for Improved Accuracy
At Pinkerton Academy, Astros quarterbacks are putting in the work to perfect their craft with the 'Quick Release' drill. This high-intensity exercise targets the quick release and accuracy that's essential for success in Division I football. To perform the drill, quarterbacks will set up 10-12 feet away from a target or a receiver. They'll start in their throwing stance, then quickly release the ball to a specific target (e.g., the receiver's chest or the center of the target). The goal is to release the ball in 1.5 seconds or less. Coaches will provide feedback on footwork, arm angle, and follow-through. Aim for 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by allowing QBs to develop a consistent release, even under pressure. It's a key component of the Astros' passing game strategy.
