FridayNightPulse: 'Rush the Pocket' Drill for Defensive Ends

๐Ÿ“ Manchester Central Little GreenยทWednesday, July 1, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the summer heat intensifies, top defensive ends at NHIAA Div I programs like Manchester Central's Little Green are putting in the work to dominate on the gridiron. One key drill to improve pass rush skills is the 'Rush the Pocket' exercise. Set up cones to form a 3-yard by 3-yard box, with a quarterback dummy in the center. Defensive ends will start 5 yards back, then sprint to the dummy, using a 3-step drop to generate power. After each rep, coaches will cue 'Finish the play' to emphasize the importance of explosive finish. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, resting for 60 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by mimicking the quick decision-making and burst required to pressure quarterbacks. By mastering the 'Rush the Pocket' drill, DEs will be ready to wreak havoc on opposing offenses this fall.
