Astros' Linebacker Drill: 'Shuttle to Shed'

๐Ÿ“ Pinkerton Academy AstrosยทThursday, July 2, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Pinkerton Academy, Astros' linebackers are gearing up for the upcoming season with a dynamic drill that simulates the speed and agility required on the field. The 'Shuttle to Shed' drill involves three 10-yard cones in a zig-zag pattern. Players start at one end, sprinting to the first cone, then immediately changing direction to the second cone, and finally to the third cone. After reaching the third cone, they shed a defender (coach or teammate) and return to the starting point. Complete 3 sets of 5 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Quick feet, change of direction!' and 'Stay low, stay fast!' This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time, agility, and the ability to quickly shed blockers, giving linebackers a competitive edge.
