At top Div I programs like Nashua South Panthers, coaches are already gearing up for the upcoming season with intense summer training. For running backs, explosive acceleration is key to breaking tackles and gaining yards after contact. One effective drill to improve this skill is the 'Hill Sprints with Resistance Bands.' Divide the players into sets of 3-4 and have them sprint up a 20-yard hill with resistance bands anchored at the top. Perform 3 sets of 6 reps, resting 2 minutes between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Drive through your heels,' 'Keep your back straight,' and 'Focus on exploding upward.' This drill translates to game performance by building the explosive power needed to break tackles and gain extra yards.
