Tackling the Competition: LB Drill for Exeter Blue Hawks

๐Ÿ“ Exeter Blue HawksยทMonday, July 27, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For Linebackers at Div II programs like Exeter Blue Hawks, a key component of success is their ability to quickly change direction and close the gap to the ball carrier. To improve this, we're introducing the 'L-Drill' - a 3-part exercise that translates to game performance. **Part 1: L-Run** - Set up 5 cones in an 'L' shape, 5 yards apart. LBs run through the course, focusing on quick feet and explosive acceleration. 3 sets of 10 reps. **Part 2: Closeout Drill** - LBs line up 5 yards from a blocking sled. On the coach's signal, they must quickly change direction and drive through the sled, focusing on pad level and extension. 3 sets of 5 reps. **Part 3: Reaction Drill** - LBs line up 5 yards from a ball carrier (cones or a teammate). On the coach's signal, they must quickly react to the ball carrier and close the gap. 3 sets of 5 reps. This drill improves LBs' ability to quickly change direction and close the gap, a critical skill for success in Div II football.
