Quarterback Readiness: The 'Rapid Release' Drill for Bedford Bulldogs

๐Ÿ“ Bedford BulldogsยทWednesday, July 29, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Quarterbacks at top Div I programs like the Bedford Bulldogs are gearing up for a dominant season. To improve their quick decision-making and accuracy, coaches are incorporating the 'Rapid Release' drill into their pre-season training. This drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Players start in a shotgun formation, 5 yards deep. The coach calls out a play-action pass, and the QB must quickly read the defense, release the ball, and hit a target (e.g. a receiver or a bucket). Coaching cues include: 'Read the defense, not the play!' and 'Release the ball before the defender touches you!' This drill translates to game performance by improving the QB's ability to quickly process information and deliver the ball to the right spot.
