QB Development: Paramus Catholic-Style 'Read and React' Drill
Quarterbacks at Non-Public B programs like Paramus Catholic's Paladins can take their game to the next level with the 'Read and React' drill. This exercise focuses on quick processing and decision-making under pressure. Set up four cones in a square formation, with one cone 5 yards from the QB and the others 7 yards away. Start with the QB in the shotgun position. On the coach's signal, the QB must read the defense and react to one of the cone positions. The QB must take 3 steps in the direction of the cone before making a decision to either hand the ball off or pull it back. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving the QB's ability to read defenses and make split-second decisions, a crucial skill for success in Non-Public B competition.
