Pirate TE's: Unleash Your Blocking Power with the 'Anchor and Slide' Drill
Non-Public A powerhouses like Seton Hall Prep Pirates know the importance of a dominant tight end. To improve their blocking prowess, we're introducing the 'Anchor and Slide' drill. This exercise targets the TE's ability to secure the edge and create a seam for the running back. Set up a line of cones, 3 yards apart, with a pad or bag at the end. Have the TE start in a 3-point stance, then 'anchor' themselves to the ground by digging their heels and extending their arms. Next, they 'slide' their feet 2 yards to the left, maintaining contact with the pad or bag. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cue: 'Feel the ground, feel the bag.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching the TE to stay low, maintain balance, and create a seal on the defender.
