Maximizing QB Accuracy with the 'Step-Up' Drill
Quarterbacks at Non-Public A programs like Don Bosco Prep's Ironmen can take their accuracy to the next level with the 'Step-Up' drill. This drill focuses on quick footwork and proper throwing mechanics. Set up three cones in a triangular formation, with the quarterback starting at the base of the triangle. On the coach's signal, the QB takes a 3-step drop and 'steps up' to the first cone, keeping their throwing shoulder square to the target. From there, they throw a 5-yard pass to a receiver at the second cone. The QB then 'steps up' to the third cone and throws another pass. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick releases and accurate throws. This drill translates to game performance by improving the QB's ability to quickly read the defense and deliver the ball to the correct spot, all while maintaining proper throwing mechanics.
