Improve Blocking Technique with the 'Anchor and Fire' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Don Bosco Prep IronmenยทWednesday, July 15, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Non-Public A programs like Don Bosco Prep, linemen must be prepared to dominate in the trenches. The 'Anchor and Fire' drill is a crucial component of any OL's training regimen. Set up a series of cones or markers 5 yards apart, with a defender positioned 3 yards off the line of scrimmage. Players will start in a 3-point stance, then explosively drive through the ground, 'anchoring' their feet and extending their arms. As they reach the defender, they will 'fire' through the block, using their hips and legs to generate power. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on proper technique and explosive acceleration. This drill translates to game performance by improving a lineman's ability to quickly engage and overpower defenders, creating holes for ball carriers and protecting the quarterback.
