Ironman CBs: Master the 'Shadow' Drill for Dominant Coverage

๐Ÿ“ Don Bosco Prep IronmenยทThursday, July 23, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At top Non-Public A programs like Don Bosco Prep, cornerbacks must be elite in man-to-man coverage. To improve this skill, Coach Thompson recommends the 'Shadow' drill. Set up a ladder with 5-6 cones, spaced 5 yards apart. Have the CB start at the first cone, then sprint to the second, planting their outside foot and mirroring the movement of a receiver. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on speed, agility, and reaction time. Coaching cues: 'Stay low, stay tight, and stay on the receiver's hip.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching CBs to quickly close gaps and stay in phase with receivers, reducing separation and limiting big plays.
