FridayNightPulse: LB Drill for Non-Public A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Don Bosco Prep IronmenยทSaturday, July 25, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At the top Non-Public A programs like Don Bosco Prep, linebackers must be prepared to face the fastest and most elusive running backs in the state. To improve their reaction time and tackling ability, we recommend the 'Ladder Shuffle-Tackle Drill'. Set up a ladder with 5 rungs on the ground and have your linebackers start at the top. On the whistle, they must quickly shuffle down the ladder (5 reps) before immediately tackling a bag or sled (3 reps). Rest for 30 seconds, then repeat for 3 sets. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'hitting the bag low'. This drill translates to game performance by improving a linebacker's ability to quickly close the gap and make a tackle in space. It also helps build their confidence in their tackling ability, a crucial aspect of success at the Non-Public A level.
