Paladins' Perfect Press: A CB Drill for Non-Public B Programs
This summer, Non-Public B programs like Paramus Catholic can gain an edge in the secondary with the Paladins' Perfect Press drill. Designed specifically for cornerbacks, this drill will improve reaction time, footwork, and ball skills. To set up: divide players into pairs with one player as the receiver and the other as the defender. The receiver will start 5 yards off the line, and the defender will line up 2 yards off the receiver. On the coach's signal, the receiver will sprint 5 yards downfield, and the defender must react to press the receiver. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues: 'React, not think' and 'Play the ball, not the man.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching cornerbacks to quickly close the gap on receivers and contest passes at the line of scrimmage.
