Pirate Tight End Drill: 'Box and Release'

At Non-Public A powerhouses like Seton Hall Prep, tight ends must be versatile and physical. To improve their blocking and releasing skills, Pirate tight ends will run the 'Box and Release' drill. Set up a 10-yard line with cones or markers. Players start in a three-point stance, then 'box out' with their feet shoulder-width apart and their hands on the ground. On the whistle, they explosively drive their feet and release to the side, keeping their hands up and their eyes on the target. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving tight ends' ability to seal the edge and release to the flat, creating space for their quarterback to throw.
