Explosive Power for 6A RBs: Cibola Cougars' 3-Step Box Drill

๐Ÿ“ Cibola CougarsยทWednesday, July 1, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

To improve RBs' ability to break tackles and accelerate through holes, Cibola Cougars' coach, Alex Johnson, recommends the 3-Step Box Drill. This drill targets RBs' power, speed, and agility. Set up three boxes or cones in a row, spaced 3 yards apart. RBs start at the first box, then perform a 3-step approach: step 1 - right foot, step 2 - left foot, step 3 - right foot again. As they step, focus on exploding upward and driving through the ground. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coach RBs to maintain a low center of gravity, keep their eyes up, and drive their legs through the ground. This drill translates to game performance by improving RBs' ability to quickly change direction, accelerate through holes, and break tackles.
