Tiger Takedown: CB Drill for Los Lunas and 5A Programs
The Los Lunas Tigers are gearing up for another strong season, and their cornerbacks are no exception. To improve their press coverage, the Tigers' coaching staff has implemented a drill that targets quickness, agility, and reaction time. The 'Tiger Takedown' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps: 1) Players start in a backpedal position, then explosively close the distance to the ball carrier, using a 'hitch' technique to change direction. 2) Focus on hand placement and staying in phase with the receiver. 3) After the play, immediately recover to the backpedal position. Coaching cues: 'Close the gap,' 'stay in phase,' and 'recover, recover.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing cornerbacks to quickly close on receivers and maintain a tight, physical coverage.
