Route Running Mastery for 6A WRs: The Cibola Cougars' Speed Box Drill

๐Ÿ“ Cibola CougarsยทSunday, July 12, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Cibola High School, our 6A Cougars are gearing up for another dominant season. To help our wide receivers dominate on the field, we're focusing on a key drill that'll improve their route running skills: the Speed Box Drill. Here's how to run it: Set up 5 cones in a box formation (2x2). Have your WRs start at the top of the box and sprint to the bottom, using a 3-step drop and a 5-yard plant. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Keep your eyes on the target,' 'Drive through your plant,' and 'Finish with speed.' This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time, footwork, and acceleration. By mastering the Speed Box Drill, our WRs will be able to outmaneuver defenders and make big plays all season long.
