This summer, Cibola Cougars S players can take their speed to the next level with the 'Shuttle-Box' drill. The objective is to develop explosive acceleration and deceleration skills, essential for beating defenders in the open field. Set up three boxes, 5 yards apart, with cones or markers. Players start at one end, sprint to the first box, change direction, and accelerate to the second box, then decelerate and change direction again to reach the third box. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Fast feet, fast feet,' and 'Change of direction, now!' This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time, agility, and the ability to quickly adjust speed and direction.
