FridayNightPulse: 'Mirror, Mirror' Drill for 6A CBs
For cornerbacks at 6A programs like La Cueva Bears, developing the skills to mirror and stay with receivers is crucial. The 'Mirror, Mirror' drill is a simple yet effective way to improve this ability. Set up two cones 5 yards apart, with a third cone 10 yards away. Have the CB start at the third cone, facing the receiver at the first cone. On the whistle, the receiver starts to run a 5-yard out route, while the CB mirrors the receiver's movements, staying 1-2 yards off their hip. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Stay on their hip, eyes on the ball, and react to their body language.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing CBs to stay in phase with receivers, making it easier to make plays on the ball and disrupt their routes.
