Lockdown Drills for 6A CBs: Cleveland Storm Prep

๐Ÿ“ Cleveland StormยทTuesday, July 21, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For cornerbacks at 6A programs like Cleveland Storm, lockdown drills are crucial in developing the skills needed to shut down top receivers. The 'Shadow Drill' targets footwork, hand placement, and reaction time. Set up cones 10 yards apart in a zig-zag pattern. Players start at the first cone, focusing on staying low and balanced. On the coach's signal, they sprint to the next cone, keeping their eyes on the target. Upon arrival, they drop into a backpedal, hands up, and react to a coach's throw or a teammate's pass. Complete 3 sets of 5 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'Stay low, stay light' and 'Hands up, eyes on the target.' This drill translates to game performance by improving CBs' ability to stay in phase with receivers and react quickly to the ball.
