Tigers' Takedown: Los Lunas LBs Get Ready for Gridiron Showdown
Los Lunas Tigers' linebackers are gearing up for a dominant 5A season, and one key drill is helping them get in top form. The 'Tiger Takedown' drill targets speed, agility, and tackling prowess. Set up four cones in a zigzag pattern, 5 yards apart. LBs will start at one end, sprint to the first cone, then immediately change direction and tackle a bag or sled at the second cone. After a 3-yard recovery, they'll repeat the process, focusing on explosive acceleration and proper tackling technique. Aim for 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving LBs' ability to quickly close gaps and bring down ballcarriers. Coaches can add an extra challenge by incorporating a defender with a ball to protect, forcing LBs to read and react.
