Explosive Edge: A 6A DE Drill for the Cleveland Storm
This week's training tip is designed to help 6A defensive ends like the Cleveland Storm's top pass rushers develop the explosive edge needed to dominate opponents. The drill, called the 'Rip and Rip,' involves setting up a pair of cones 5 yards apart, with a defender starting at the line of scrimmage. On the whistle, the defender sprints to the first cone, then immediately changes direction to rip back to the second cone. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include 'rip like a snake' and 'change direction on a dime.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the defender's ability to quickly close gaps and accelerate around the edge, making it harder for opponents to block. By incorporating this drill into their training, Cleveland Storm DEs can develop the speed and agility needed to dominate in the 6A playoffs.
