Unlocking the Edge: A DE Drill for 6A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Cleveland StormยทMonday, July 27, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For defensive ends at 6A programs like Cleveland Storm, dominating the edge is crucial. One effective drill to improve this skill is the 'Speed-to-Power' drill. Set up two cones 10 yards apart, with a third cone 5 yards beyond the second. DEs will start at the first cone, sprint to the second, then immediately transition into a power step, planting their outside foot and driving through the third cone. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'Fast feet, slow hands' and 'Drive through the ground.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching DEs to quickly close the gap and explode into tackles. By incorporating this drill into their pre-season training, Cleveland Storm's DEs can gain a significant edge on the competition.
