FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Cibola Cougars' Tight End Drill
๐ Cibola CougarsยทTuesday, July 28, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider
At 6A programs like the Cibola Cougars, tight end play is crucial to success. A key drill for developing TEs is the 'Route Box' exercise. Set up four cones in a 5-yard square, with each cone representing a different route: in, out, dig, and hook. Players start at the center cone, then sprint to each cone, executing the corresponding route. For example, a dig route requires a quick drop and catch. Coaches should emphasize proper footwork, hand placement, and body positioning. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving TEs' ability to quickly read defenses and execute precise routes. It also enhances their agility and speed, allowing them to make plays in traffic.
