FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Tight End Takedown Takedown Drill

๐Ÿ“ Desert Pines JaguarsยทWednesday, July 1, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For 4A tight ends like Desert Pines Jaguars, this takedown drill will improve their ability to secure blocks and create space in the passing game. Set up cones 5 yards apart in a zig-zag pattern. Divide the tight ends into pairs, with one player as the blocker and the other as the defender. The blocker must take a 3-step drop and then explode into the defender, aiming to take them down to the ground. The defender must try to stay upright and maintain their balance. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'Drive your feet' and 'Keep your head up.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching tight ends to explode into contact and secure blocks, creating space for their quarterback to make throws.
