Patriots' CBs Get Ready for the Gridiron with the 'Shadow' Drill
The Liberty Patriots' cornerbacks are gearing up for another dominant season, and a key part of their prep is the 'Shadow' drill. This intense workout targets the quickness, agility, and reaction time of CBs, all crucial skills for shutting down opponents' top receivers. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Players line up 5 yards off the receiver, who starts at the line of scrimmage. On the snap, the receiver runs a 5-yard out route, and the CB must quickly close the distance and 'shadow' the receiver, staying within a 2-foot radius. Coaching cues include 'eyes on the receiver' and 'stay on their hip.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing CBs to develop the speed and agility to stay with quicker receivers and the reaction time to anticipate and make plays on the ball.
