Boosting Bishop Gorman's Tight End Game: The 'Y' Route Drill
This summer, Bishop Gorman's tight ends can take their game to the next level with the 'Y' Route Drill. This drill focuses on developing the quick release and separation skills necessary to excel in the 5A Nevada high school football landscape. Set up two cones 10 yards apart, with a third cone 5 yards beyond the second. Begin with the TE at the first cone, then sprint to the second cone while keeping their eyes on the coach or quarterback. At the second cone, quickly change direction and release to the third cone, focusing on a quick, inside release. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include 'eyes on the target' and 'release, don't reach.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing TEs to develop the speed and agility to create separation from defenders, making them a valuable asset for the Gaels' offense this season.
