Kicker's Power Wedge Drill: Building Leg Strength for Bishop Gorman Gaels

๐Ÿ“ Bishop Gorman GaelsยทThursday, July 16, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

To improve leg strength and power for kickoffs, Bishop Gorman Gaels' special teams coach can implement the Power Wedge Drill. This drill involves three sets of 10 reps, with a 2-minute rest in between sets. Players start in a lunge position with their back knee almost touching the ground, then explosively drive through their front heel to lift their back leg off the ground, keeping it straight. As they lift, they should focus on squeezing their glutes and pushing their hips back. This motion translates to game performance by generating power and speed on kickoffs, allowing the kicker to reach the end zone and pin the opposing team deep. Coach can provide real-time feedback on form and encourage players to maintain proper technique.
