Explosive Speed for S Players: The Reno Huskies' 5-Yard Shuttle Drill

๐Ÿ“ Reno HuskiesยทWednesday, July 22, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Reno Huskies prepare for the upcoming 5A season, their coaching staff is focusing on developing the speed and agility of their secondary players. One drill that has proven effective in building explosive acceleration is the 5-Yard Shuttle. This drill consists of three sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Players start at the 5-yard line, then sprint to the 10-yard line, change direction, and sprint back to the 5-yard line. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'drive through the turn.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a player's ability to change direction quickly and accelerate out of breaks. By incorporating this drill into their training regimen, S players can develop the speed and agility needed to stay one step ahead of opponents.
