Lock-On Drill: Elevating Cornerback Performance at Liberty Patriots

๐Ÿ“ Liberty PatriotsยทSunday, July 26, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

The Lock-On drill is a crucial training exercise for cornerbacks at 5A programs like Liberty Patriots. This drill focuses on developing the ability to stay locked onto a receiver's hip, even in tight coverage situations. To perform the Lock-On drill, have your CBs pair up and start at the line of scrimmage. The receiver will sprint 5 yards downfield, then quickly change direction to simulate a cut. The CB must stay locked onto the receiver's hip, using their outside foot to pivot and maintain coverage. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'eyes on the numbers' and 'stay glued to their hip.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a CB's ability to stay in phase with a receiver, even in high-speed situations.
