FridayNightPulse: RB Power Drill for AA Programs

๐Ÿ“ Aquinas Institute Little IrishยทSunday, July 5, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At AA programs like Aquinas Institute's Little Irish, running backs need to be explosive and elusive on the field. To improve their power and agility, we recommend the 'Box Jump to Lateral Shuffle' drill. Set up a series of boxes or benches 12 inches high, spaced 3 feet apart. Have your RBs perform 3 sets of 10 reps: jump onto the box, immediately transition into a lateral shuffle, and then jump off the box. Coaching cues include 'explosive jump' and 'quick feet.' This drill translates to game performance by improving RBs' ability to quickly change direction and accelerate past defenders. It also enhances their power and explosiveness, allowing them to break tackles and gain extra yards.
