Crusader Catch: A WR Drill for Speed and Separation

๐Ÿ“ Monroe Woodbury CrusadersยทThursday, July 9, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, WRs at AA programs like Monroe Woodbury Crusaders can improve their speed and separation with the 'Crusader Catch' drill. Set up four stations: 10-yard sprint, 5-yard cut, 3-yard plant, and a 10-yard catch zone. Divide the team into pairs, with one player as the receiver and the other as the quarterback. Start at the sprint station. The receiver sprints 10 yards, then cuts 5 yards to the side while maintaining top speed. The QB throws a 10-yard out route. The receiver plants their outside foot, turns, and catches the ball. Complete 3 sets of 5 reps at each station. Coaching cues: 'Sprint like a cheetah,' 'Cut with your eyes on the ball,' and 'Plant and turn like a pro.' This drill translates to game performance by improving speed, agility, and ball skills. It also enhances the WR-QB connection, a crucial aspect of any offense.
