FridayNightPulse: WR Drill for AA Programs
At AA programs like Erasmus Hall Dutchmen, wide receivers need to be prepared for the physicality of the game. One effective drill to improve their skills is the 'Release and Run' drill. Set up two cones 5 yards apart, with a third cone 10 yards beyond the second one. The WR starts at the first cone, then releases off the line of scrimmage, running a 5-yard route to the second cone. After catching a pass, they immediately change direction, sprinting to the third cone. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Release on the snap,' 'Run crisp,' and 'Change direction quickly.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the WR's ability to separate from defenders, accelerate after the catch, and make plays in space. It's a simple yet effective way to enhance their skills before the season begins.
