Explosive Acceleration Drill for Running Backs
At AA programs like Monroe Woodbury Crusaders, running backs need to develop explosive acceleration to break tackles and gain extra yards after contact. This drill targets the muscles used in acceleration, improving speed and power. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps: 1) Start in a 3-point stance with feet shoulder-width apart. 2) Drive through the ground with your back foot, keeping your front foot on the ground. 3) Immediately explosively drive your front foot into the ground, extending your hips and knees. 4) Focus on keeping your chest up and shoulders down, maintaining a tight core. Coaching cues: 'Drive through the ground,' 'Extend your hips,' and 'Keep your chest up.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a running back's ability to accelerate quickly and break tackles, making them a more effective player on the field.
