Crusader Cornerbacks: Mastering the 'Backpedal to the Ball' Drill
๐ Monroe Woodbury CrusadersยทWednesday, July 15, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider
This summer, Monroe Woodbury Crusaders cornerbacks will focus on the 'Backpedal to the Ball' drill to improve their reaction time and ball skills. Set up a series of 5-yard cones in a zig-zag pattern. Players will start at the first cone, backpedaling to the second cone while keeping their eyes on a coach or trainer holding a football. As the coach moves the ball, the player must react and make a play on the ball. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Stay loose, stay light' and 'Keep your eyes on the prize.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing cornerbacks to develop their ability to read the quarterback's eyes and react quickly to the ball in the air.
