FridayNightPulse: Power DE Drill for AA Programs
For defensive ends at top AA programs like Long Island Lutheran Crusaders, a key to success lies in explosive acceleration off the line. To develop this skill, coaches can implement the 'Rapid Reaction' drill. Players will start in a three-point stance, with their back foot forward and hands on the ground. On the whistle, they explosively drive their back foot into the ground and immediately transfer their weight onto their front foot, keeping their back foot in contact with the ground. This drill should be performed in sets of 3 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Aim for 3-4 sets total. Coaching cues include 'Drive, don't lift' and 'Keep the back foot down.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing DEs to quickly close the gap on ball carriers and disrupt the offense's timing.
