Kicking into Gear: Long Island Lutheran's Pre-Season Kicking Drill
As the summer heat intensifies, AA programs like Long Island Lutheran Crusaders are putting their kickers through a grueling pre-season training regimen. One key drill that's yielding impressive results is the 'Distance and Accuracy Combo.' This drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest in between sets. Players start at the 30-yard line, kicking a ball through the uprights from 40 yards out. On the next rep, they move back to the 20-yard line and kick from 50 yards. Finally, they kick from the 10-yard line, aiming for a 60-yarder. Coaching cues emphasize proper approach, plant, and follow-through. This drill translates to game performance by improving kickers' ability to adjust to varying distances and pressures, making them a more reliable option for their team.
